Hekhal editorial

Become a reviewer

Hekhal publishes rigorously sourced, openly licensed editions of the esoteric corpus. The machine-assisted ones are published glass-box: marked provisional, with their method and apparatus exposed, until a credentialed human scholar reads them against the original and signs them off. That sign-off is the one thing the engine cannot do for itself. It is where you come in.

What reviewing means here

A reviewer reads a Hekhal edition (or a slice of one) against its source of record and judges whether the rendering is sound: faithful to the original language, honest about what is contested, and free of the confabulation that machine drafts are prone to. Where it holds, you graduate it from provisional to reviewed, and your name and the date attach to the edition as its warrant. Where it does not, you tell us what is wrong, and it does not ship until it is fixed.

You are not endorsing Hekhal's framing or its choices of what to include. You are vouching for one thing: that a specific text is rendered and described accurately. That asymmetry is the whole point. It is the same discipline behind the Sugya position-graph, where every scholarly claim must rest on a real, citable source or it never renders.

Who we are looking for

  • Readers of the source languages: Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Syriac, Coptic, Latin, Sanskrit, and the other languages of the corpus.
  • Scholars of a tradition (Kabbalah, Sufism, Hermetica, apophatic Christianity, and the rest) who can judge doctrine and context, not only philology.
  • Graduate students, independent scholars, and credentialed practitioners welcome. Standing matters less than the ability to read the original and the willingness to be exact.

The commitment

Light and self-paced. We bring you a text in your area; you review at whatever depth and pace you can give. One chapter is a real contribution. Everything is openly licensed (CC-BY-SA), so your work is permanent, public, and attributable to you.

Offer to review

We read every application personally and will be in touch to discuss a first text in your area.
