This is the containment tier. Material here documents reader reception and the public esoteric record. Canonical codex entries never cite this surface; see the asymmetry rule.

The Hekhal containment board is a separate surface inside the larger Hekhal project. The canonical codex documents the world’s mystical and esoteric traditions on their own terms: primary sources, named translators, scholarly reception traced. Reverent rigor, traditional first.

This surface does something different. It documents how those traditions show up in capitalist symbolism, in ritualized public events, in factionalized political theology, and in the gap between what primary sources actually say and what the popular esoterica economy claims they say.

What lives here

Five content registers:

  • Capitalist and elite contemporary symbolic decoding. Fashion, music, tech-elite symbolic output. Documented record, sourced.
  • Ritualized public events. Met Galas, Olympic ceremonies, coronations, halftime shows, documented elite ritual gatherings.
  • Historical-precedent material. The Theosophical Society’s political reach, the Golden Dawn’s cultural footprint, Newton’s alchemy, the documented record on occult-political intersections.
  • Cross-tradition source-vs-meme decoding. What the primary texts actually describe versus what contemporary content claims they describe.
  • Factionalized religious and occult throughlines in major political events. Specific named theological movements with specific named members influencing specific named decisions. Scholarly-tradition framing, never religion-blanket framing.

Editorial law

Three rules govern every entry.

Source-trace per claim. Every assertion ties to a primary text, a documentary record, a specific named witness, or an explicit unsourced-but-attributed flag. The flag itself is the editorial move; Hekhal documents that a claim is in circulation without endorsing it.

Documented-record frame replaces hidden-truth frame. Entries read as historical record, not revelation. “Here is what the public record shows” rather than “here is what they don’t want you to know.”

Asymmetry. Containment may cite canonical. Canonical never cites containment. The split is structural, not just policy; the canonical codex at hekhal.org keeps its academic register clean by remaining untouched by anything indexed here.

What does not appear here

Material that fails the source-trace test, period. Anti-religion dogwhistles disguised as elite-occult decoding. Health and medical conspiracy material (wrong project entirely; see Hekhal’s canonical lane for related traditions, not this surface). Q-tier numerology. Single-source assertions about living individuals’ specific occult memberships or practices. Current-news partisan conspiracy.

The narrowness is the protection. The intellectual ancestors of this work are Wouter Hanegraaff, Corinna Treitel, Marco Pasi, Joscelyn Godwin, Antoine Faivre, Arthur Versluis, Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke, Gershom Scholem, Moshe Idel, Henry Corbin. Their scholarship establishes esotericism, occult-political history, and the comparative study of mystical traditions as serious academic categories. Containment-board entries are short-form work continuing that lineage.

Comments

Each entry below has a comment thread. Magic-link signup, pseudonymous display name, two-level threading. Comments document reader reception; they do not represent Hekhal editorial. Hekhal staff replies are marked. The asymmetry rule extends here: comment activity stays containment-side and never bleeds into the canonical codex.

Who runs this

Vincent Couey. The same person who built the canonical codex, runs the Targum translation engine, and publishes physics research on arXiv. The integrated identity is deliberate, and the contributor page routes through to that wider work.

Vector A2BAAL · DOCUMENTED RECORD

Baal Is Not a Demon

A West Semitic title for "lord" was a chief Bronze Age storm-god, a Phoenician category-noun for many city-cults, and a polemic target for the Hebrew prophets. Almost everything else the term carries in modern occult and pop-cultural usage was manufactured between 1307 and 1856.

The name "Baal" carries thirty centuries of compounded meaning and almost none of it is what the modern Western imagination thinks it is. Across Ugaritic mythology, Phoenician inscriptions, Punic Carthage, Hebrew prophetic polemic, Second Temple demonology, the Templar trial of 1307, Hammer-Purgstall's 1818 Mysterium Baphometis, and Lévi's 1854 Sabbatic Goat ink drawing, distinct historical layers were collapsed by reception into a single composite "demon." This entry separates the layers, names the documents, and reads the manufacture.

Bohemian Grove: The Documented Record

A two-week summer encampment of an 1872 San Francisco writers' drinking club has become, in popular reception, a binding decision-body of the global elite engaged in ancient Druidic child sacrifice. The documented record is significantly stranger and significantly more boring than either reading.

The Bohemian Grove is a real place with a real history. It was founded in 1872 as a San Francisco journalists' fraternal club, holds its annual two-week encampment on 2,700 acres of redwood near Monte Rio, stages an opening-night theatrical pageant called the Cremation of Care first written in 1881 and standardized by 1923, and was the off-season private rental site of the September 1942 Manhattan Project planning meeting at which Leslie Groves was effectively cleared to lead the atomic project. The popular conspiracy reading (child sacrifice, Moloch worship, ancient Druid lineage, binding global-elite decision body) does not survive contact with the primary and scholarly record. The documented record (a late-Victorian theatrical convention, an aesthetic chain through eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British Druid-revival imagination, a real but bounded space of US Republican-aligned elite social cohesion) is its own kind of strange. This entry holds both readings against the documents.

Read the Record: The Open Cultic Register of Michele Lamy and Rick Owens

A streamer asked her. She answered with the named adversary. The thirteen-year documented register the elite-fashion press has been calling "avant-garde" is on the public record.

Michele Lamy's documented self-identification as a practicing witch, her named-Baal reply to a street-evangelism prompt, and the household register she runs with the designer Rick Owens read as overt cultic affiliation propagated through the highest-circulation surfaces of international fashion. One documented case in a wider pattern.
